It is a common Mauser 7,65. Burgess Mason's article identifies it as being a "1914 WWI era, Manufactured from 1914 to 1923" but is it possible to say the exact year of manufacture? MAG?? ... on a different receiver that is Mauser machine gun. No proof marks. Nothing. Finish is smooth with no obvious sign of polishing. However the MAG - 216xx is clean and deep. The barrel is ALSO, Naked, Blank, Bare. No caliber nor gunsmith. I was told it is a 7mm MAG .... and bore mikes out to .277 lands. But judging the date of manufacture (of the finished rifle) from the serial number is only very approximate. Sako didn't always use their numbered receivers in order when finishing rifles, so a lower number can belong to a rifle which came from the factory somewhat later. Your rifle could be as early as 1960 or as late as 1962.
